There’s a reason we’re asking In case you had not already heard, the news recently came out that current New Orleans Saints head coach and noted human colostomy bag Sean Payton was going to have part of his life made into a movie by Netflix.
The movie will talk about how Payton spent 2012, which is the year he spent coaching his son’s sixth-grade football team and not the New Orleans Saints due to the revelations that he is, in fact, cheating garbage. On the upside, it was announced that the role of Payton in the movie would be played by Kevin James, who you might know from The King of Queens and Paul Blart: Mall Cop, among other things, and who generally seems like too decent a guy to be lumped in with the likes of Payton.
So, inspired by a couple of folks on the Twitters, I started to wonder who would play the role of Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer if anyone were to make a movie about his life and times. I considered Samuel L. Collapse

Thursday Open Thread Good Morning!
I made the unilateral decision to eliminate the media selection from the open threads I post, (although I might sneak something in on the weekend thread) - I did discuss this with Gone Fishin via text the other day, he’s his own person so he can do what he wants on his threads. It’s late, I’m tired and crabby so let’s get to it. We’ll carry on with our news and links open thread full of crockpot recipes, nap strategies and beer recommendations; drop by for some fan wisdom, snark and it’s Thursday, one more day until it’s weekend eve and time to plan the beer and meat menu for the weekend.

1 DAY AGO - With the NFL Draft on the horizon, it is time to start thinking about the Vikings’ possible options. Daniel House shared several different scenarios! With the NFL Draft on the horizon, it is time to start thinking about the Vikings’ possible options. GM Rick Spielman and the front office could implement a variety of blueprints. However, we all know Minnesota must invest ample draft resources into the offensive line. With that in mind, the Vikings may explore several different strategies. Trade up for SlaterIf quarterbacks start flying off the board, a top offensive tackle or guard may slide. Northwestern’s Rashawn Slater is one of my favorite players in the entire 2021 draft class. He is a premier athlete with excellent hand technique and quick feet. Slater posted a 9.71 Relative Athletic Score (RAS), including elite outputs in the explosiveness and speed composites, according to Kent Lee Platte’s database. I had an opportunity to study him very closely in the Big Ten. While Collapse

A shift in focus for the purple We are officially back with the seventh installment of our Minnesota Vikings Mock Draft Database for the 2021 NFL Draft. We took a week off for personal reasons and to allow things to re-calibrate after a couple of significant moves took place around the National Football League, and now we have a shift in what position mock drafters everywhere are predicting the Vikings to address when the draft comes around in just 17 days.
This week we have 90 mocks making up our Database. . .I was going to shoot for 100 for this installment, but couldn’t quite find enough that had been updated within the appropriate time frame. The overwhelming majority of these have been updated within the past week, so it should be a pretty accurate reflection of the consensus. With that, here are our mocks for this week.
Again, mocks that appear in italics are those that involve the Vikings making a trade. You can click on the Collapse

15 HRS AGO - Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports
Or the best at using his “draft capital” We are now a mere two weeks away from the 2021 NFL Draft in Cleveland, and that means we’re two weeks away from the time where Minnesota Vikings’ GM Rick Spielman makes us celebrate and then turns around and trades down eighteen times in an effort to acquire the entire seventh round of the draft.
It’s gonna be great!
Over at NFL.com, Gregg Rosenthal has put together a set of “General Manager Power Rankings” going into this year’s selection meeting, and I think that we can safely say that Mr. Rosenthal thinks pretty highly of the king of Rickspeak. Spielman slots in at #6 in Rosenthal’s rankings.
Here’s Rosenthal’s commentary on Spielman’s recent draft prowess:
Spielman has quietly been with the Vikings since 2006 and received the general manager title in 2012. Selecting Justin Jefferson last year was the latest in a string of big draft hits (Stefon Diggs, Danielle Hunter, Eric Kendricks and Dalvin Collapse

Another former player comes back Yesterday, the Minnesota Vikings brought back one of their former players for a role on the sidelines.
The team announced that they have hired Robert Steeples to serve as the team’s assistant special teams coach. Steeples played for the Vikings back in 2013. He appeared in two games, playing a total of 12 snaps on special teams.
Steeples has been out of the NFL since 2015, and those two games with the Vikings were the only regular season action he saw in the NFL. Since leaving the NFL, he’s been the head coach at his high school alma mater, De Smet Jesuit High School in St. Louis. Steeples will fill the role that was vacated when Ryan Ficken was promoted to the lead special teams coordinator job following the departure of Marwan Maalouf after the season.
I don’t know a whole lot about Steeples other than what I’ve already mentioned above, but it’s pretty cool to see a former Viking. . .however limited his time Collapse

The draft is approaching, the wait is short, it’ll just seem long Happy Wednesday, everyone!
I hope y’all’s work weeks are going well, we just have to make it through the rest of this week, and then next week. Then, it’ll be draft time. The way all of the “experts” are talking, quarterbacks are going to be flying off the board in round one, which is good for the Vikings’ odds of snagging a guard or tackle. I wouldn’t want to be a QB needy team with the 10th pick or so, they may be choosing from the QB crumbs that are left over. You never know, though, that’s how it went down for the Vikings in 2011, and that turned out oka.........uhhhh, yeah, that sucked. I’d hate to be that team. I blame Ponder.

Hey, in response to some discussions I’ve had, or have listened to, or have overheard, regarding the reilability of 40 times this year since they’re all coming from a player’s pro day, I have a dumb question. Wanna hear it? Oh, I see......... Well, I’m going to ask it anyway. You know how they have those “next-gen” stats (I hate cliches, but I don’t know how else to describe these stats. If they were truly, “next-gen” stats, they’d be clocking the speed of the next generation, and many of those people haven’t been born yet, so that’s a dumb term, but oh well, I didn’t make it up, and I normally don’t use it.). Anyway, you know how they have those “next-gen” stats, right? Then they have 145 billion camera angles, and they now have goofy stats that use a calculation that is based on the count of the number of sweat droplets per second that a player sheds from his right forearm when he spins left while being Collapse
